Job Description

The prestigious Radisson Blu Hotel Lagos Ikeja is hiring now for passionate and hardworking individuals to join our kitchen team as Kitchen Assistants / Food Prep Staff. This is a fantastic entry-level opportunity to learn the operations of a professional, high-standard kitchen. While some prior kitchen experience is a plus, no extensive experience is required for candidates who possess a positive attitude and a strong willingness to learn. What You Will Do

  • Assist our team of talented chefs with daily food preparation tasks, including the washing, chopping, weighing, and portioning of ingredients.
  • Meticulously maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene in all kitchen areas, including workstations, equipment, and storage spaces.
  • Support the culinary team during busy service periods by ensuring they have a constant and organized supply of prepped ingredients and clean utensils.
  • Strictly follow all food safety, sanitation, and hygiene procedures to ensure the health and safety of our guests and your fellow team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Wash, peel, chop, slice, and portion a variety of vegetables, fruits, and other ingredients as directed by the senior chefs.
  • Prepare basic food items such as salads, dressings, sauces, and marinades according to hotel recipes and standards.
  • Ensure all food items are stored correctly in refrigerators, freezers, and dry stores, following proper labeling and stock rotation (FIFO) procedures.
  • Operate standard kitchen equipment such as mixers, food processors, slicers, and grinders safely and correctly.
  • Wash dishes, pots, pans, and other cooking utensils, and ensure that all kitchen surfaces and floors are kept clean and sanitized at all times.
  • Assist with receiving and properly storing food and supply deliveries, checking for quality and quantity against invoices.

Required Skills

  • The ability to follow verbal instructions and written recipes accurately and efficiently.
  • A strong attention to detail, especially when it comes to food quality, portion control, and cleanliness.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills to handle multiple tasks in a busy kitchen.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Senior School Certificate (SSCE/HND) is required. A certificate or diploma from a recognized culinary or catering school is a strong advantage.
  • A basic understanding of food safety and hygiene standards.
  • You must be physically fit, able to stand for long shifts in a fast-paced environment, and able to lift moderate weights.
  • A positive, "can-do" attitude, a strong willingness to learn, and the ability to work effectively as part of a disciplined team are essential.
