Job Description/Summary
An exceptional opportunity has arisen at Shell Nigeria (SPDC) for a talented and ambitious graduate as part of our urgent hiring initiative for our advanced projects team. We are seeking a Graduate Trainee Mechanical Engineer for a fully remote, design-focused role. This is an entry-level position created specifically for recent graduates who are ready for an immediate start in a world-class engineering environment. No extensive professional experience is required, as this role is part of our structured graduate development program, designed to mentor the next generation of industry leaders. We are hiring now to bring fresh perspectives to our innovative and complex energy projects.
This is not a typical engineering role. As a remote member of our team, you will be immersed in the digital side of mechanical engineering, supporting senior engineers in the design, analysis, and simulation of critical infrastructure and components. You will leverage cutting-edge software and virtual collaboration tools to contribute to projects that have a real-world impact. This position offers the perfect launchpad for a career in engineering design, providing unparalleled training and exposure without the constraints of a daily commute. If you are a self-disciplined, tech-savvy Mechanical Engineering graduate with a passion for innovation, we invite you to apply today.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior engineers in the development and modification of 2D and 3D models and detailed engineering drawings using software like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar platforms.
- Perform fundamental engineering calculations and support basic Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations under direct supervision.
- Prepare, review, and maintain technical documentation, including design reports, project specifications, and presentations.
- Collaborate effectively with a multi-disciplinary and international team of engineers and project managers using virtual communication platforms (e.g., Microsoft Teams).
- Conduct research and analysis on materials, processes, and standards to support design and development activities.
- Uphold Shell's world-class Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) standards in every aspect of design and communication.
Required Skills
- Strong theoretical knowledge of core mechanical engineering principles (thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, materials science).
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software is essential; experience with simulation software is highly desirable.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills, crucial for success in a remote working environment.
- Highly self-motivated, disciplined, and organized, with the ability to manage time and tasks effectively without direct supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree (B.Eng.) in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of Second Class Upper (2:1) Division.
- Completion of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program is mandatory.
- A Master's degree or professional certification (e.g., COREN registration in progress) is an advantage but not required.
- Demonstrable proficiency and project experience with CAD/CAE software from your university studies.
Perks & Benefits
- An industry-leading, highly competitive graduate salary package.
- Comprehensive medical and dental coverage for you and your eligible dependents.
- A structured two-year graduate development program with dedicated mentorship.
- Provision of a home office setup allowance, including a high-performance laptop and necessary software licenses.
- Opportunities for international project exposure and virtual collaboration with global teams.
