Job Description

We are seeking an accomplished Senior Director of Engineering – Enterprise Data Platform to join our high-impact leadership team. In this role, you will provide unified technical leadership to modernize, integrate, and optimize Salesforce’s enterprise data ecosystem. This foundational platform is a critical enabler of AI innovation, analytics modernization, and trusted self-service data access at scale.

As the Senior Director, you will spearhead initiatives that drive interoperability across a diverse technology stack, while operationalizing a data mesh architecture. Your leadership will directly impact the company’s ability to scale AI, deliver advanced analytics, and democratize data across all levels of the organization. You will be pivotal in aligning engineering priorities with Salesforce’s strategic AI objectives and business goals.

Additionally, you will play a central role in transforming the developer experience through the adoption of next-generation AI-driven tools such as Cursor (AI-powered coding) and Model Context Protocol (MCP) for intelligent automation. By empowering engineering teams with AI-assisted workflows, you will enable faster, safer, and smarter innovation across the organization.

This role requires visionary leadership, deep technical expertise, and exceptional cross-functional collaboration skills. You will manage and mentor high-performing teams while ensuring that our data platform remains scalable, reliable, compliant, and cost-optimized.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

• Own and drive the technical vision and roadmap for the Enterprise Data Platform Foundation.
• Operationalize a data mesh architecture to support domain-oriented ownership, interoperability, and AI/ML enablement.
• Align engineering priorities with strategic business objectives, including AI enablement, analytics modernization, and enterprise-wide data democratization.
• Oversee the implementation of a unified governance and operating model across critical data tools, including Salesforce Data Cloud, Snowflake, dbt Cloud, Airflow, Informatica, Tableau, and AWS.

Developer Experience & Self-Service Enablement

• Redesign the developer journey to improve speed, reliability, and simplicity in data workflows.
• Integrate AI-assisted engineering practices (e.g., Cursor, MCP, Copilot) into workflows to boost team productivity.
• Standardize pipelines, environments, and tooling for consistent deployment across multi-cloud and multi-org environments.
• Enable self-service capabilities while ensuring compliance, governance, and security adherence.

Operational Excellence

• Lead efforts to improve platform reliability, observability, and automation.
• Drive incident management, performance optimization, and cost efficiency.
• Ensure strict adherence to SLAs, compliance standards, and regulatory frameworks (GDPR, SOX, CCPA).
• Manage vendor relationships and optimize licensing, infrastructure, and operational spending.

People Leadership

• Build and lead high-performing engineering teams across diverse technical disciplines.
• Foster a collaborative, innovation-driven culture with cross-functional partnerships in Product, Security, Governance, and Business Units.

What We’re Looking For

• 15+ years of leadership experience in engineering and portfolio management within data and integration domains.
• Proven track record of delivering scalable, secure, and cost-optimized enterprise platforms.
• Strong expertise in data platform technologies: Snowflake, dbt Cloud, Airflow, Informatica IICS, Tableau, Data Cloud.
• Hands-on experience with Apache Spark, Apache Iceberg, and Python for large-scale data analytics.
• Experience with AI/ML enablement and AI-assisted engineering workflows.
• Background in cloud-native architectures (AWS, GCP, Azure) and hybrid deployments.
• Familiarity with DevOps, MLOps, and DataOps best practices.
• Strong leadership, communication, and C-level influencing skills.
